The current situation

Measuring performance against clear, quantifiable metrics is critical to improving quality of care and maximizing efficient use of healthcare resources. Performance measures enable policymakers and government organizations to track performance over time, identify areas for improvement, and determine priorities for new initiatives. A well-designed measure can also stimulate changes in behavior that improve quality and value, but a poorly designed measure can steer providers to actions that can have little effect on quality and/or waste resources.

In order to design the most effective performance measures, policymakers need quantitative information about the effects of different processes and treatment targets on morbidity, mortality, utilization, and costs. Because of the complexity and costs involved, it is not feasible to obtain this information through clinical trials or other empirical methods.

The Archimedes advantage

The Archimedes Model is a large-scale, carefully validated simulation model of human physiology, diseases, behaviors, interventions, and healthcare systems. It is ideally suited to analyze performance measures that span collections of conditions, such as cardio-metabolic risk or cancer, because all of the conditions, biomarkers, processes, and treatment targets are incorporated in a single integrated model that uses a consistent methodology.

How you can use the Archimedes Model

Cardio-Metabolic Risk (CMR) Forecast Dataset. The CMR dataset provides data from 19 simulated trials that addressed 20 interventions for cardio-metabolic risk in U.S. patients. It includes a range of processes and treatment targets related to cardio-metabolic risk, incorporating information on current levels of performance based on national data sets. Using CMR, you can study the effects of closing the gap between current levels and 100% performance. More...

ARCHeS Innovator. ARCHeS Innovator is a web-based tool you can use to run unlimited simulations of different levels of performance relating to management of hypertension, glycemia, lipids, smoking, weight, or aspirin use, in different populations using the Archimedes Model. More...

Archimedes IndiGO. IndiGO is a decision support tool that creates individual intervention and behavioral recommendations for patients. It is not used for measuring performance, but you can use its output as an overall measure of quality that is based on outcomes and spans a wide range of conditions, interventions, and biomarkers relating to a particular class of outcomes such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. Modeling & Consulting Services.  Archimedes provides comprehensive support to help you run custom simulations and build new disease models. For questions that cannot be addressed with ARCHeS Innovator, CMR, or IndiGO, our team of scientists and physicians will work with you to incorporate additional conditions and interventions, or extend the Model to a deeper level of physiological detail to suit your needs.
