The current situation
Measuring performance against clear, quantifiable metrics is critical to improving outcomes while controlling costs in care delivery organizations. Effective performance measures allow an organization to track performance over time, identify areas for improvement, and determine priorities for new initiatives.
In order to design the most effective performance measures, quantitative information about the effects of different processes and treatment targets on morbidity, mortality, utilization, and costs are needed. Because of the complexity and costs involved, it is not feasible to obtain this information through clinical trials or other empirical methods
The Archimedes advantage
The Archimedes Model is a large-scale, validated simulation model of human physiology, diseases, behaviors, interventions, and healthcare systems. It can be used to evaluate performance measures and quantify improvement in outcomes across a variety of diseases.
Users can quantify the effects of interventions (e.g., blood pressure control, weight loss, cholesterol reduction, etc.) and see how their organization’s performance would affect health outcomes. Based on these results, the organization can more intelligently allocate its resources.
How you can use the Archimedes Model
Cardio-Metabolic Risk (CMR) Forecast Dataset. The CMR forecast dataset contains the results from 19 simulated controlled trials that compared current levels of care with 20 different interventions for managing cardio-metabolic risk. Using CMR, you can:
- Evaluate how your organization would perform if it followed national guidelines
- Quantify the impact of standard preventive interventions
- Identify specific sub-populations that would most benefit from specific interventions
